GE engines to power Royal Air Force of Oman aircraft

GE Aircraft Engines has won a contract to supply GE F110 fighter engines to the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO). The new engines will power the RAFO's new fleet of 12 Lockheed Martin F-16 aircraft.
"We are very gratified and delighted with the RAFO's confidence in GE with their selection of the F110 engine, " said Russ Sparks, Vice President and General Manager of GE Aircraft Engines-Military Engines Operations. "We are looking forward to providing our support to the new engine fleet."
The RAFO selected the F110-GE-129 model, rated at a powerful 29,000 pounds of thrust, to be installed on their new fleet of fighter jets. The F110-GE-129 model first entered operational service back in 1992 when they they were utlised by the US Air Force's F-16 fleet.
With the signing of the deal, GE Aircraft engines has to date supplied more than 2,500 F110 engines worldwide, with the first order placed by the US Air Force in 1984. The Royal Air Force of Oman is expected to receive their F110 engine deliveries in 2004.
