Acer, which launched its range of Digital Still Cameras (DSC) in January this year, is aiming to capitalize on the growing appetite for digital photography in the Middle East. It has been estimated that of the 130 billion pictures taken worldwide in 2003, 40 billion were in digital form, and that figures is expected to soar to 215 billion images by 2008.

During the PhotoWorld exhibition - currently taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre until March 17 - Acer will be giving visitors the chance to take pictures with its cameras and customize them using its Tablet notebook PCs - illustrating how digital convergence technology can be used to maximum effect.

"Sales of digital cameras across the region are strong and growing, as more customers look to the versatility, easy storage and fun of digital photography," said Graham Braum, business development manager, mobile products, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.

"But what makes digital photography even more fun, is the ability to manipulate images with the use of a computer, creating highly personal and unique pictures. The possibilities are endless," added Braum.

Acer has introduced three digital cameras in the Middle East, each with between five and six megapixels per inch. All come with a 64MB SD card and a built-in flash with different shooting modes to prevent red-eye. Each also has an aluminum housing and comes with ArcSoft/NTI photo software.

The five megapixel Acer CR-5130 has a 1.8" CCD sensor, a 1.5" LCD TFT and a maximum resolution of 2560x1920. The ultra-slim five megapixel CS-5530 features a 1/ 2.5" CCD sensor, 2.5" LCD TFT and a maximum picture resolution of 2560x1920. Acer's CR-6530 is a six megapixel camera with a 2.5"LCD TFT and maximum picture resolution of 2816x2122. All three models have 3x optical/4x digital combined zoom lens.

Acer have created a mini-studio for visitors to take and alter their images. Acer's C110 and C300 Tablet PCs will be used to modify the pictures using "inking" technology, and people can also print out their creations.
To celebrate PhotoWorld, Acer will be offering special discounts on its entire range of digital cameras across the UAE for one week only.

"People are talking about digital convergence, but not many understand the concept," added Braum. 'Visitors to Acer's stand at PhotoWorld will be able to try and test our cameras, as well as seeing a practical demonstration on what convergence technology is and how it works."
