"The role that Fastlink is playing is a tangible proof of the extent of interaction and cooperation between private businesses and the local community, serving to consolidate the efforts of the various sectors towards a better social and economic structure in the Kingdom," said Nader Al-Dahabi, the Chief Commissioner of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA)." Dahabi praised Fastlink contribution to national development efforts and called on other private institutions to assume a more serious role in socio-economic development.

In line with the mandate of ASEZA, which envisages a more powerful private sector role in the developmental scheme of ASEZ, Dahabi pointed that the Authority is cooperating with the Directorate of Education in Aqaba to provide support to public schools. The plan is to invite public and private sector institutions to adopt the facelift of the existing schools, which currently require general maintenance work as well as teaching equipment and learning tools. Upgrading the schools is seen to contribute towards the advancement of the educational sector in Aqaba and assisting ASEZA in fulfilling its aspirations of providing the work market in the local community with more qualified youth.

"Fastlink has accorded the youth sector particular focus in its initiatives, as the young men and women of Jordan are the true wealth that will build the future of the country," said Fastlink CEO, Mohammad Saqer. He pointed that Fastlink has set up partnership agreements with various Jordanian universities and was the first private sector company to support the Kingdom's e-learning initiative by adopting the computerization of the Science curricula.

Saqer once again affirmed the Company's commitment and continued support of the various sectors in the Kingdom, which, he said,"stems from our stern belief in playing a vital and effective role in social development." He said public and private sector institutions must join forces to bring to light many needed projects in ASEZ, and help turn it into an investment attraction.

Last year Fastlink launched "Fastlink Educational Fund", which hopes to improve the living standards of underprivileged students by availing them a number of educational grants to help them complete their university education.

Saqer said the future would see a more active Fund, which will provide the umbrella for the various initiatives that the Company has and will continue to launch in the interest of education in the Kingdom. He said that, so far, the Fund has benefited a total of 10 excelling students and one student with special needs.

Furthermore, Saqer said, the Company has utilized its technology to contribute towards advancing educational tools, launching the EduLink Project, which links the data base at universities with students through their mobile phones.

Upgrading the educational sector in ASEZ is a joint project by ASEZA and the Directorate of Education. It is believed to effectively contribute to the overall development of the area and bring about the aspired socio-economic progress in the South.
