LG shows off new technology at CeBit 2005
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 17 - 2005 at 08:31
- PRESS RELEASE
Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics stole the limelight at the world's largest hi-tech fair CeBIT 2005 by showcasing the world's largest commercialised 71-inch plasma TV, the largest commercial 55-inch LCD TV, and the world's first terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast-receiving mobile phone.
Demonstrating its commitment to mobility, LG unveiled mobile phones with a combination of entertainment and convergence features. LG's 3G mobile phones including the LG-U8150 model are compatible with GSM/GPRS networks, and enable real time communications through their video telephony function. The dual folder designed 3G handsets have cutting-edge multimedia features such as VOD/AOD on a 260,000-color TFT-LCD, video recording, multimedia messaging service (MMS), and MP3.
"LG will continue to expand its portfolio of smart multimedia products to deliver the benefits of digital convergence to consumers worldwide. We have highlighted technology such as HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), described as 3G on steroids, that offer consumers faster download times, at the show - this technology is set to be rolled out in the US, Europe and Korea next year," said K H Kim, President, LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Operations.
Other strategic products LG unveiled at CeBit this year were terrestrial and satellite based DMB phones, 3D game phones embedded with a 3D acceleration chip and a horizontal QVGA-type (320×240) LCD and the blue tooth enabled OnePhone with a supporting walkie-talkie and wire and wireless connection services. Reinforcing the importance of cameras on phones, LG's new three million pixel camera phone, with the 'mega shutter, a system that shuts out unnecessary light when shooting photos, was also on display. The company expects to drastically boost its 3G-brand awareness in the WCDMA mobile handset market and sell an estimated 50 million units in 2005.
In line with the increasingly growing demand for premium home entertainment products, LG showcased innovative digital convergence products, Sonoma platform notebook PCs and MP3 players. As the world leader in optical storage devices for the seventh consecutive year, the LG line up also included super-multi storage products including the world's first multi-format playing/recording devices.
""CeBit is the festival of technologies and IT marketing not only for Europe but also for the rest of the world. By demonstrating our technological prowess and product and design capabilities, we enhance our global brand recognition to maximise sales," said Kim.
