  • PRESS RELEASE

Emirates Fine Arts Society (EFAS) has today announced it will show a fine arts exhibition on the fringe of Sharjah Biennial 7, beginning simultaneously with the international arts event on April 6 and running until June 6.

Organized under the directive of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and a lifelong supporter of Arts, the fine arts exhibition will display artwork of 27 local and resident artists at the Sharjah Art Museum.
"The goal of the fine arts exhibition is to introduce the Biennial visitors to the local art dynamics, as well as promoting the interaction between the local artists and the Biennial activities," said Mohammed Kazem, curator of the exhibition.

The fine arts show also provides an ideal platform for local artists to present their work to a global audience, due to the vast canvas of the Biennial and its international nature, he said.

"The Exhibition itself is not guided by a particular theme" he added, "Instead, the showcased artwork tackles the sociocultural aspects of the diverse local community, which in many ways also address the issue of belonging, which is the theme of Sharjah Biennial 7", says Kazem.

In his curatorial statement, Mr. Kazem said that the artwork displayed will explore concepts of art in its wider sense, and provide insights into the creative diversity of local art.
Among the artists whose work will be on display at the fine arts exhibition are Ahmed Sharif, Ahmed Hylouz, Ismail Rifai, Patricia Melon, Thaer Hilal, Hakim Ghazali, Husein Sharif, Khaled Al Banna, Khalil Abdul Wahed, Sandreen Kumar, Talal Mualla, Aisha Al Zarouni, Abdul Raheem Salem, Abdul Latif Al Samoudi, Abdullah Al Saadi, Kamberly Land, Kareema Al Shoumari, Layla Joumaa, Majida Nasseredine, Mohamed Ahmed, Mahmoud Hesso, Mona Abdul Kader, Moza Bushleibi, Nasser Abdullah, Najat Makki and Huda Khaled Miqdadi.

Sharjah Biennial 7, the only international contemporary arts event of its kind in the GCC, will showcase the creative works of over 70 artists, representing 36 countries, at the Sharjah Expo Centre and the Sharjah Art Museum.

Showing work from diverse cutting edge contemporary artists from around the world, the Biennial is set to interest visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Among the local and UAE resident artists at Biennial are Hassan Sharif, Mohammed Kazem, Ebtissam Abdul Aziz, Nuha Assad, Tarek Al Ghoussein, Chris Kienke and Mark Pilkington.

The Biennial is free to all visitors and is being held over two months. For the first time during the Biennial, visitors can participate in a number of parallel events being held over this period.
