"Mobile phones and wireless handhelds are tremendous productivity boosters, but these small devices are mini computers that inherit virus risks similar to other computers. As the network perimeter expands to encompass Smart phones, organisations need to consider security for such devices. TMMS protects popular devices from the major handset manufacturers," explains Justin Doo, managing director, Trend Micro Middle East and Africa.
Management and provisioning is enabled through the TMMS Mobile Management Console, permitting mobile operators and enterprises to remotely equip, update and control the protection on client devices.
Just as analysts recognise the risk to data-centric devices, so to are the handset providers and manufacturers. Claro™, a leading handset provider, recently moved to provide Trend Micro Mobile Security to its Customers as an added value service.
Marco Quatorze, marketing director for Claro commented "Claro is committed to providing our 11.1 million subscribers with the best possible service in a secure environment. With the growing usage of Smartphones, Claro needs to be proactive in augmenting customer security."
"Choosing to use some of the leading technology from Trend Micro provides our customers with a clear advantage. Claro customers can remain ahead of the game as the risk of malware threats increases. We are looking forward to the release of Trend Micro Mobile Security 2.0 that will augment the existing 1.0 functionality and provide Claro with the opportunity to increase average revenue per subscriber," added Quatorze.
Industry experts have predicted that mobile threats will continue to increase. Already in 2005 a number of new mobile malware has been identified, including the VLASCO family, which uses Bluetooth to propagate; and COMWAR, which uses Bluetooth or MMS to propagate.
Trend Micro Mobile Security version 1.0 was launched in December 2004 and be downloaded at no cost from http://www.trendmicro-europe.com/mobilesecurity. Version 1.0 will function until 30 June 2005.
