Etisalat Academy signs MoU with the Ministry of Telecommunication in Egypt

As part of its efforts to implement the 'Easy Learning' project - the UN initiative in the Middle East and North Africa adopted by Etisalat Academy - the Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information in Egypt to launch the project in the North African country.

The MoU will highly contribute in improving the skills and qualifications of universities graduates planning to embark on a successful career and employees working in both the government and the private sector. Additionally, this will support Egypt's efforts to set up a strong information society.

Dr. Tareq Kamel, Minister of Telecommunication and Information in Egypt and Abdullah Al Tunaiji, member of Etisalat Academy Board of Directors signed the memorandum in the presence of representatives from G77-United Nations, ministers and officials in Egypt. According to the MoU, the Egyptian Ministry of Telecommunication and Information shall determine the requirements of the Egyptian society regarding the e-learning programmes. These were designed especially for the Middle East and North Africa by the United Nations to fill the gap between academic studies and current job requirement. The programmes include courses in Science Administration, e-government, accounting, quality assurance and management, marketing, customer services and English Language.

Speaking about the importance of the memorandum, Obaid Bin Mes'har, CEO Etisalat International, said: "This project is a unique and hugely important step for the Academy and the advancement of the information society in Egypt. We are pleased to be able to play this supporting role for the project in the Middle East and North Africa which has been a priority since our inception. We consider the development of e-learning a priority and we will endeavor to do everything in our power to progress this in both the private and public sector within the UAE and beyond."

Dr. Asad Shah praised Etisalat's distinguished position represented by the Academy in supporting the knowledge and culture in the society as well as its initiatives in rehabilitating and training working cadres.

Dr. Doaa Fares, General Manager of the Academy, said: "Etisalat Academy was fulfilling an important role in bridging the gap between in knowledge and experience -between the labour market and the universities. The Academy was chosen as a regional representative for a number of international educational institutions in the US and Europe. It has also been accredited as the first regional centre in the Middle East to examine IT experts and engineers hoping to receive international accredited certification.

"As one of the prestigious educational institutions, the Academy deals with ISC2, which is considered to be the first in the world to certify the Security System Professional Certified Information (CISSP)."

He noted that choosing the Academy to implement the E-learning project adopted by the Group-77 reflects the high standard of the educational and training qualifications the Academy has, which is comparable to the most pre-eminent international standards in the field of e-learning.

The United Nations has placed huge significance on this initiative to spread e-learning throughout the MENA region. The first phase of the project, which includes 600 individual training sessions, was finalised and approved by international institutes.
