In a large scale cleaning campaign at 'Musheiref Creek' in Ajman organised by Dubai Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) on the occasion of the World Water Day 2005 under the slogan 'Water for Life' sponsored by Union Co-op according to the private sector role in supporting the environmental awareness in the society.
The campaign programme incorporated a number of relevant activities, starting at 0900 hrs with broadcasting integrated information dealing with ways for conservation of water and cleaning works at all schools of Ajman Education District.
Under the supervision of the Environment Awareness & Education (EAU) at PCFC and in collaboration with Ajman Electricity & Water Authority (AEWA), the programme was concluded with a lecture delivered at Aisha Bint Abdullah School addressing 'Water Depletion risks' with the attendance of 300 students.
The students, who have been divided into a number of groups led by teachers from Al Rasheed, Al Hassan Al Bisri, Omer Bin Abdul Aziz and Bin Tameema Schools, deployed at the banks of 'Musheiref Creek' collecting all kinds of litters and other refuse including empty bottles, plastics, iron & paper in cooperation with Ajman Municipality and the General Headquarter of Ajman Police.
From other side, Dubai Beverage and Jeema Mineral Water distributed more than 4000 bottle of water carrying the campaign's slogan for all PCFC employees.
'The celebration of this Day comes as part of disseminating environment awareness among children on the significance of the conservation of water sources and providing clean healthy environment, and the school plays a prominent role in spreading awareness among children who showed a great enthusiasm to participate in this Day whereas the civic community establishments like PCFC, AEWA and Ajman Municipality, greatly appreciate the importance of this issue and spare no effort to offer assistance,' said Obaid Saif Al Matrooshi, Director of Ajman Education District, the Campaign Supervisor.
Ahmed Abdul Hussain, Director of EHSS Department at PCFC, said 'the sponsorship of this Day comes within the framework of our efforts in maintaining the maritime environment since our main Business Units including Customs, DPA, JAFZA and other development projects are in direct contact with the sea, and we are confident that the school students are the leaders of the future and we should therefore support all activities wherever found for creating a new generation with the feeling of responsibility, environment perception and keeping in mind maintenance of general cleaning and sources of water.'
