- United Arab Emirates: Monday, April 04 - 2005 at 12:21
- PRESS RELEASE
The Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ), a joint initiative of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) and Harvard Medical International (HMI) which oversees health care quality, clinical planning, education, project management, training, licensing and credentialing within DHCC has held a series of meetings with regional bodies to explore possibilities of collaboration.
Dr Mariam Al Mazrouei, Medical Director of Dubai Healthcare City said, "The underlying goal of the CPQ is to support continuous improvement across every aspect of Dubai Healthcare City and throughout the region. Moving forward, the CPQ also aims at offering its services in health systems development and educational development to organizations throughout the Gulf Region. In line with this the team from CPQ is holding a series of meetings with regional healthcare and medical education leaders."
Dr. Andrew Barrer, Acting Chief Executive Officer of CPQ and Executive Director of Harvard Medical International said that the CPQ team visited and held talks with medical organizations in Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to discuss possibilities of collaboration and to share the new systems created for Dubai with colleagues throughout the region.
Dr. Barrer elaborated, "The first trip this year was to Doha to meet with members of the Qatar Foundation, Rand Corporation, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Science and Technology Park and the Specialty Teaching Hospital on making alliances and exchanges on how CPQ can add value to their projects. We discussed developing quality standards for existing and new hospitals, public policy research, healthcare facility design standards and consulting and training in scientific research standards and processes."
"In Cairo the CPQ team visited the President and Dean of the Misr University of Science and Technology (MUST) School of Medicine to talk about developing an education alliance and in providing services to help them develop their faculty and curriculum to bring it to international standards," said Dr. Barrer.
"In Riaydh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the CPQ team held meetings with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center on how we could work together to improve medical education services and scope in the region through developing collaboration with Harvard Medical School Dubai Center in developing the post-graduate education program to allow for training sites within DHCC," said Dr. Andrew Barrer.
The CPQ is a result of a committed long-term collaboration between DHCC and HMI throughout their partnership. The organization's charter covers a complexity of roles, from licensing health care providers to operate in Dubai Healthcare City, to setting standards of high-quality care and providing quality training and performance evaluation. The overarching goal of the CPQ, however, is to support the ongoing development of Dubai Healthcare City into a location of choice for health care delivery and ensure that the healthcare services provided at DHCC are comprehensive and aligned with regional demand.
