China is the world's largest exporter of textiles and apparel products with 28 percent market share. The elimination of the MFA (Multi-Fibre Agreement) in early 2005 which hitherto restricted China's exports to the U.S, has accelerated China's campaign to grab a larger share of the global market.
Commented Suman Manian, Show Manager, MOTEXHA, "Clothing and textiles together represent over 25 percent of China's total exports and the United Arab Emirates is among the top 10 markets for Chinese exports. The country is increasingly looking at gaining a larger share of the fashion market by using exhibitions such as MOTEXHA as a launch pad to promote its fashion brands to new markets. This year, the show will see several Chinese brands under the China pavilion as well as new companies from Dragon Mart.
Hong Kong books biggest pavilion ever
MOTEXHA Spring 2005 will also witness its biggest participation ever from Hong Kong, the world's second largest garment exporter. Hong Kong enjoys a reputation for quality products at competitive prices, combined with the ability to adapt to changing trends and upgrade skills and services rapidly.
The Hong Kong Pavilion will feature textiles and garments from Saneco International, jewelled evening bags and cashmere shawls from Fine n' Rhine, briefcases from Gateway Leather Work, Knitwear from Ente (HK) Merchandising Co Ltd and evening and leather handbags designed by Meg Tse from Lucky On Enterprises Ltd. A majority are independent exhibitors, that is, not government funded, reflecting their faith in the show's ability to deliver results.
Commented Winnie Sion, Manager Future Commercial Marketing, Hong Kong's agent for the show, "Most of the companies at MOTEXHA are new in the Middle East, and aware of the potential of this market. In 2004 itself, Hong Kong's export to the UAE were worth over US$1,916 million. The region's fashion buyers already understand the advantages of trade with Hong Kong and we look forward to building successful relationships with them."
