Female health put under spotlight at Gulf medical meet

These experts say that a 'revolution' in the development of drugs to treat female conditions means that more women are more easily able to seek and receive treatment, often in the form of a once-daily tablet.

'As medical professionals, we have a duty to inform, educate, and increase understanding about how new, novel oral therapies are adding value to women's health and delivering to them a better quality of life,' said Dr. Roger Abs, Head of Antwerp University Hospital in Belgium, a visiting physician who will be a keynote speaker at the 1st Pfizer for Women Symposium taking place in Dubai on 8 April.

The conference will address the medical treatment of vaginal infections, hyper-prolactinemia, and overactive bladder, but it will also address other female-specific health challenges such as osteoporosis.

Pfizer, the sponsor of the event, remains a leader in the field of women's health. Its Diflucan drug, for example, is the world's most prescribed oral therapy for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis, and is the only recommended treatment by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

For the safe and effective treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders, Pfizer's Dostinex is the considered to be the industry 'gold standard,' while its Detrusitol drug is the world's most prescribed oral therapy for one of women's most bothersome conditions, overactive bladder.

Detrusitol effectively treats urge urinary incontinence (UUI), which doctors say is the most bothersome symptom of overactive bladder. The drug has been proven to significantly reduce UUI episodes - even in severe cases, where patients reported an average of more than 42 episodes in one week.
