The launch marks the latest addition to the 45-year old hospital's continuing expansion programme, and reinforces its standing as the 'Family hospital of Al Ain'.

Flagging off the launch at a ribbon-cutting event attended by several dignitaries and medical practitioners, Janice Stokes, CEO of Oasis Hospital spoke of the significance of the new facility: 'Much progress has been made in health care services since the humble beginnings of our hospital in 1960, and today, proper endoscopic facilities comprise an integral part of modern day diagnosis, therapy and treatment. I am delighted that Oasis Hospital can now offer these facilities to our patients in a pleasant and patient-friendly setting,' she stated.

'Given our long history and the many years of trust associated with the Oasis Hospital, this launch is also a significant step towards upgrading facilities and offering up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic amenities to our patients - one of many developments that shape our expansion programme.

This addition greatly increases the diagnostic and therapeutic facilities currently available at Oasis Hospital, and the new Endoscopy Suite will not only serve our vast in- and out-patient population, but is also a potential resource for anyone in the region who seeks consultations in the welcoming, comfortable and safe setting of the Oasis Hospital,' she said.

Stokes explained that in the past, endoscopies (investigations of the body conducted through its natural passageways) were mostly conducted in operating rooms. Creating a separate entity, with its own patient reception and recovery areas, allows for better and more comfortable service. 'While most of our patients are residents of Al Ain, we also have visitors from as afar as Abu Dhabi, Dubai and several parts of Oman - for whom these new services will prove vastly beneficial,' she said, adding that there is a multitude of diseases which can not merely be identified by endoscopy, but can also be treated or cured.

Officiating at the event, Consultant General Surgeon of Oasis Hospital, Dr. Henk Schaap further elaborated on the importance of endoscopy as an important pillar of medicine and surgery. The Suite includes areas for patient reception and preparation, a recovery unit and a discharge area, Dr. Schaap stated. The new Endocsopy Suite is located in the Oasis Hospital's in-patient building between the Day Care unit and the Operating Rooms.
