Maxtor appoints M.A.S Egypt as its first in-country distribution partner for Egyptian Market

Maxtor Corporation (NYSE: MXO), one of the world's leading manufacturers of hard disk drives and consumer storage solutions, announced today details of its new channel alliance with M.A.S Egypt.

M.A.S Egypt, Maxtor's first in-country channel distributor, will be handling Maxtor's complete range of storage solutions from desktop and server drives to consumer branded storage products. This latest alliance reflects Maxtor's expansion plans for the Middle East, where the company is appointing experienced local distribution partners throughout the region who have strong domain knowledge and close relationships with system assemblers, resellers, small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and government and corporate clients.

"Our alliance with M.A.S Egypt, a highly respected and recognized leader in the distribution of leading global technology products across the Egyptian marketplace, will strengthen our position in-country and ensure that local businesses and consumers enjoy easy accessibility to Maxtor's complete storage product line," said Rajeev Mukul, GM, Maxtor Middle East and Africa.

Maxtor hard disk drives include its family of DiamondMax® ATA drives for desktop PCs, MaXLine® drives for midline and nearline storage applications, and Atlas® drives for high performance enterprise systems. The company also carries a full line of consumer storage and backup solutions including the Maxtor OneTouch II™ drive, the new Maxtor Shared Storage™ solution for home and small business networks and Maxtor® QuickView® hard drives for consumer electronics such as DVRs.

"We are proud to announce our distribution partnership with Maxtor, which has one of the world's most respected brands in the hard drive business," said Yasser Fawzy, GM, M.A.S Egypt. "The momentum has already commenced, with a strategic marketing plan being implemented to increase the reach of Maxtor's extensive storage product line in the Egyptian market to cater to virtually every HDD storage need."

M.A.S Egypt, incorporated in 1990, is a major distributor for a number of global IT brands in Egypt. M.A.S Egypt's responsibilities and activities include sales, marketing, customer service and technical support. M.A.S Egypt markets technology products to businesses and consumers across Egypt through a variety of distribution channels, including computer distributors and dealers.

Maxtor's alliance with M.A.S. Egypt is also designed to reach out to grassroot PC assemblers and second tier resellers in order to improve customer service in pricing, product availability, training and technical support. Maxtor and M.A.S will also initiate a number of marketing activities to increase brand awareness in Egypt, including a promotion of the Maxtor OneTouch external storage and backup solution in hypermarkets and retail outlets, featuring product bundles with PCs, digital cameras and MP3 players. The two companies will also collaborate on customer education and training to tap into the growing market of networked digital homes.

For some time now, Maxtor has recognized the immense potential in Egypt for its consumer branded product line as well as for the traditional desktop and server hard drives. With increasing volumes of data-rich files (pictures, music, and videos) downloaded through the Internet, reliable, cost-effective and flexible internal and external storage solutions are increasingly important.

Home networking is also a growing trend in Egypt, and M.A.S Egypt will help increase awareness of the new Maxtor Shared Storage solution for home and small business networks. The Maxtor Shared Storage solution provides excellent data storage capabilities for storing and sharing valuable personal or business files, music, pictures and videos with everyone on the network.

Maxtor's innovative and affordable storage solutions will be communicated to PC users in Egypt via a number of strategic marketing activities and market communication programs initiated by M.A.S Egypt.
