The state-of-the-art lamps will be launched by Singaporean road safety equipment manufacturer, Silver Traffic Products, (STP), during Gulf Traffic 2002, the region's major vertical conference and exhibition (Confex) for the Middle East's traffic and transport industry.

'This is just one of the hi-tech, road safety solutions to be showcased during the event,' said Jessica Sutherland, General Manager, IIR Exhibitions & Conferences, the organiser of Gulf Traffic, which will be held at Dubai's Crowne Plaza Hotel, from 26-29 October 2002.

'Fatal road accidents in the UAE in 2000 cost the government Dhs 4 billion. Over the last 20 years 14,000 people have died in car accidents in the UAE alone. This statistic has resulted in all Middle East governments looking to invest in preventative measures and cost effective solutions.'

STP's breakthrough higher definition road lamp range is used near road works to warn motorists of danger ahead.

'Its importance to drivers' safety is critical and the most sophisticated equipment and advanced techniques have been used in the lamps' production,' said Yeo Seng Siah, Director, STP.

'With safety being a major issue, our focus as an exhibitor, will be to demonstrate STP's cutting-edge capability to provide state-of-the-art, ultra modern road lighting solutions.'

STP has also said that it is looking for a Middle East distribution partner, in a bid to expand the road equipment specialist's reach.

'We want to sign a deal with a regional agent for the distribution of our products across the Middle East and Gulf Traffic 2002 is just an ideal forum for that.'

So far, Gulf Traffic 2002 has also received exhibitor confirmations from the USA, Czech Republic, Canada, the UK, Germany and the UAE. Some 350 Middle East and international delegates from the transport sector are also expected to attend a multi-speaker conference which will have three distinctive segments dedicated to mass transit, with particular emphasis on rail networks, intelligent traffic systems (ITS) and urban planning.
