HH Sheikh Mohammed to inaugurate Desert Festival today

His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, UAE Minister of Defence and Chairman of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is scheduled to inaugurate the Second Festival of The Cultures & Civilizations of World Deserts which begins at the Dubai International Endurance City near Bab Al Shams today.

The Desert Festival features a wide range of traditional and cultural experiences, exhibitions, musical programmes and a variety of activities that will appeal to the masses. Strong delegations from 37 countries including Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Oman, Sudan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Iran, India, Libya, Pakistan and China among others to display their cultures during the week-long fiesta.

A series of soul-charging performances have been lined up, including interesting exhibitions and celebratory public spectacles in a variety of events featuring UAE and Arabian as well as international folklore artists in disciplines ranging from music, dance, theatre to visual arts and crafts.

A full program of workshops, seminars and conferences that will enable people to know more about desert life that represents a blend of simplicity and nature and the purity of spirit.

Honorable President of Algeria & Patron of the World Deserts Foundation, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, South African President, Thabo Mbeki, other heads of state, more than 48 Ministers and members of the UAE Supreme Council are expected to attend the event.
