'People with disabilities as well as older persons that are wheelchair-bound form a growing group of visitors to such events and easy physical access is equally important for families with elders as well as young children in prams,' said DTCM Manager Events, Marwan Juma bin Beyat.
He noted that the portion of older people in populations of developed countries was rising dramatically and the phenomenon was more or less the same in developing countries.
'People with disabilities and older persons represent a large potential consumer market segment for the tourism and hospitality industry,' remarked Mr. bin Beyat. 'The Desert Festival was organised with a degree of sensitivity, clarity, safety and convenience from the perspective of disabled and elderly visitors,' he said.
'We understand the needs of the handicapped and have responded to these needs and golf carts as well as wheel chairs were made available on site for the disabled and elderly,' Mr. bin Beyat concluded.
