Desert Fiesta concludes with enthralling performance

The Second Festival of Cultures and Civilizations of World Deserts concluded yesterday (April 22nd) with delegations from 37 countries putting on a multi-cultural display of music, song and dance as the sheer beauty and artistry of the performances left the crowds enthralled.

Delivering the closing ceremony address at the Dubai International Endurance City, HE Abdul Rahman Al Midfa, UAE Minister of Health said, 'We would like to thank all the countries that participated in the desert fiesta in Dubai and made this an event to remember. By displaying a collective traditional experience, all the delegations have helped visitors gain new insights into the culture and heritage of the world's desert regions.'

He added that culture as substantiated in forms such as music, handicraft, performing arts and literature has been given its due importance at the Dubai event.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Zayed International Prize for the Environment, Chairman Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Fahad said, 'We have displayed our commitment to promoting the country's heritage and culture and at the same time provided an ideal platform to 37 member countries to congregate in Dubai in a celebration of desert life.'

Dr. bin Fahad noted that through the staging of this event, Dubai lived up to its image of a warm and hospitable nation by opening its arms to different nationalities in a celebration of brotherhood and peace.

UAE-based consul generals and ambassadors of the participating countries, visiting senior officials, officials from Dubai's public and private sector as well as international and local media, attended the closing ceremony.

A series of soul-charging performances were lined up, including interesting exhibitions and celebratory public spectacles in a variety of events featuring UAE and Arabian as well as international folklore artists in disciplines ranging from music, dance, and theatre to visual arts and crafts.

A full program of workshops, seminars and conferences enabled people to know more about desert life that represents a blend of simplicity and nature and the purity of spirit in an effort to recreate the magic of the cultures and civilizations of people from the desert.
