RUF Automobile sets up in Bahrain

Germany's high performance sports carmaker, RUF Automobile, will set up a joint venture factory in Bahrain, the first car manufacturing plant in the Gulf Region.
The new full-range service, production and marketing base in the Kingdom will be the first such facility outside RUF's homebase in Pfaffenhausen, Germany. It will also include an advanced research & development centre.
RUF was first established in 1939 as a car service garage. It later developed into manufacturing passenger tourist coaches, and in 1963 the company began servicing and repairing Porsche cars, a business which it continues to do.
The company manufactures puts out only about 35 cars a year, which are purchased by car enthusiasts, race drivers and collectors.
Each car is customised according to the requirements of the buyer, and sells for more than $130,000. The top speed is 360kmph.
The new Bahrain car plant will be built on 20,000sqm of land and is to be completed in 18 to 20 months.
