The company said the sales growth of its premium sports and sedan cars was indicative of a growing level of recognition across the region for Jaguar's distinctive style, luxury and performance.

Saudi Arabia had the lion's share of this growth with sales figures in March soaring in the Kingdom by 204 per cent compared to February. March sales in the UAE increased 86 per cent and doubled in Kuwait.

Jaguar's first quarter sales increased 61 per cent in Saudi Arabia, 10 per cent in Kuwait and seven per cent in Qatar compared to the same period last year

The flagship XJ model was the major contributor to this growth recording 96 per cent increase in March, and 24 per cent increase in the first quarter this year. XJ sales in the Kingdom increased in the first quarter this year by 231 per cent compared to the same period last year. Sales of this model rose in March 36 per cent in the UAE, and 88 per cent in Kuwait compared to February this year.

Andy Gawthorpe, Managing Director, Jaguar Middle East & North Africa said: "We operate in a market that is growing at a phenomenal rate and witnessing fierce competition among luxury car makers. We are extremely pleased with these results and in particular with the XJ long wheel base. This car is the definitive Jaguar. It is the most advanced Jaguar ever built and among the safest cars in its class."

Gawthorpe said Jaguar had excellent start this year, and expressed confidence that Jaguar's future will remain bright and exciting in the region.

Jaguar revised its business plans last year to consolidate resources to help reshape the company and return focus on luxury, power and elegance, the key qualities that have always made Jaguar cars special.
