US prime contractors confirm attendance at Iraq Development Program summit in June

As development efforts in Iraq continue apace and the country's new government establishes itself, the Iraq Development Program has reached an agreement with the Iraqi Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce to receive a delegation of senior US prime contractors in Iraq at its forthcoming summit, which takes place in Amman, Jordan on 28-30 June 2005.

In line with its objectives of promoting and facilitating commercial development within Iraq, generating investment revenue to stimulate the country's economy and aiding the formation of business ties between international companies and local Iraqi firms, the Iraq Development Program will host a strong delegation from the prime corporations operating in the country, including industry titans such as Bechtel, Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR), FluorAMEC, Black & Veatch, Parsons, CH2MHill, Washington Group and Harris Corporation.

Senior executives from the prime contractors, including heads of procurement and country managers, will be available over the course of the three days to meet with those companies looking to work with or supply goods and services to them. The summit will also host representatives from the Iraqi private sector, ministry officials and state owned enterprises.

"We are delighted to be part of the program and look forward to what promises to be a highly successful summit," said Rex Wempen, Chairman of AMCHAM. "The role of the corporations attending from our delegation is crucial to the reconstruction process in Iraq and we view this as an ideal platform to meet with companies and form partnership agreements."

The summit looks set to be strongly attended by the international corporate sector, with high demand for passes limited to a few hundred select places. Priority has been awarded to those companies already part of the program, though a small number of places do still remain, providing a fantastic opportunity for firms to increase their chances of successfully conducting business in Iraq by forming partnerships with those already ensconced in the rebuilding process.

In addition to the corporate delegation, the program will host over 200 local Iraqi businesses, senior Iraqi business family members, government ministry officials and director generals from Iraq's many state owned enterprises. There will also be representation from a number of other bodies, including senior US and UK military officials and organisations such as the World Bank and various international donor agencies.
