Intel Developer Forum (IDF) introduces ground breaking platforms for Middle East

Together with other players in the IT industry, Intel showcased new platforms and technologies, and unleashed the vision of their future developments and its vast potential in the region.

According to Aysegul Ildeniz, Intel's Regional Director, the region's first IDF got off to a great start, with overwhelming participation from individuals and companies: "IDF Cairo was designed as Intel's tribute to the immense potential of computing and communications in the region. Undoubtedly, our enthusiasm and vision for the future is shared by several others who participated in the event alongside us today. This unique forum, which brought together regional talents and senior Intel executives from around the world, marks IDF Cairo as an event that will benefit a vast number of people - software developers, assemblers, vendors, consultants and educational institutions - across organisations and across borders," she said.

"Following in the wake of Intel CEO Craig Barrett's recent visit to the Middle East, IDF Cairo confirms the region's growing importance and defines its path to innovations. We believe that the strong application/system software and communication system development communities resident in the region will play a major role in the digital surge taking over our everyday lives," she confirmed.

"The event was also marked by addresses by senior executives from Intel. Frank Spindler, Vice President Intel's Sales and Marketing Group and Director of Industry Technology Programmes, delivered the keynote address - a strategic overview of Intel's current technical direction and their latest developments. Chris Thomas, Chief Strategist, Director of Strategic Initiatives Solutions Market Development Group spoke on the trends and emerging issues that are shaping regional IT. And Shekhar Borkar, Intel Fellow and Corporate Technology Group Director, Circuit Research, presented Intel's latest research and development efforts, how these address existing user needs, and its possibilities for the future," he stated.

The key themes covered at the forum included - Research and Development, Digital Enterprise, the Digital Home, Mobility and Communication Technologies, Cross-Architecture Software Development. IDC Cairo featured more than 200 hours of lectures, sessions and labs covering Wi-Fi and other wireless innovations, Hyper-Threading Technology, PCI Express, InfiniBand*, Gigabit Ethernet, the Digital Home, security advances and mobile and modular platforms.
