MTC Group shares global vision at ATIF 2005

Telecommunications Company Group (MTC) has announced its platinum sponsorship of the Arab Telecom and Internet Forum (ATIF), which takes place in Marrakech, Morocco from May 19-21.
Dr. Marwan Al Ahmadi, CEO for Strategic Affairs and IT at MTC, will discuss future initiatives of the group in a paper titled 'MTC moving into the global arena'. He will also highlight the achievements of the company as it pursues the 3x3x3 strategy to achieve global status conceived by group CEO Dr. Saad Al Barrak.
Dr. Ahmadi said: "MTC is today considered a leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, but our goal is to compete with the main global players in the near future. In 2005, we hope to more than double our existing customer base and enter more new markets."
MTC recently announced acquiring 85 per cent of the subscribed shares of leading Sub-Saharan telecom company Celtel International B.V ('Celtel'), increasing its customer base to 9.5 million customers in 18 countries. MTC will secure the remaining 15 per cent of Celtel in the next two years.
Through its local-regional-global strategy - called 3x3x3 - MTC hopes to attract 20 million customers by 2011.

About MTC GroupMobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) was founded in 1983 and today is one of the largest mobile operators in the Middle East and Africa, with more than 9.5 million customers in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and 13 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. MTC is listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange. Most recently in March 2005, MTC acquired Celtel International, a Dutch communications network company with major interests in 13 Sub-Saharan African countries, in one of the biggest telecom deals in the Middle East and Africa; the deal was worth $US3.36 billion, and the MTC Group now operates in 18 countries. MTC group has now completed the first phase of its 3X3X3 strategy, which will see MTC become a global operator with more than 15 million customers by 2011. MTC will continue to expand internationally through acquisitions, partnerships and green-field opportunities.
