- PRESS RELEASE
Sony Gulf recently introduced DCR-DVD803/E, the world's first 3 Mega Pixel DVD camcorder.
"This region has seen a phenomenal uptake of the DVD camcorders and almost all DVD players can play back Sony's DVD camcorder recording, making the DVD one of the most compatible formats available," said Mr. Masaru Tamagawa, managing director of Sony Gulf FZE. "In addition to their incredible compatibility, DVDs also present one of the easiest ways to shoot, store, play and share video memories".
For enthusiasts who demand realistic and dramatic sound along with their high quality video recordings, the DCR-DVD803/E's is also the world's first Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator compatible camcorder model, allowing users to record and automatically encode 5.1-channel surround sound for outstanding playback in home theatre systems.
The DCR-DVD803/E offers even greater convenience than ever before with the addition of DVD+RW format support. Now video recordings on the 8cm DVD can go into almost any DVD player without the need for finalization.
A Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* Lens fit on the Handycam features a 10x Optical Zoom (8.5x for Camera-Memory Mode) and the renowned T* lens coating for minimizing reflections, enabling superb video images even when capturing a moving object. Sony's exclusive Mega Pixel Engine technology, with features such as Advanced HAD CCD, Inter-Frame Noise Reduction and Raw Data Noise Reduction, is built into this Handycam. Through Mega Pixel Engine, high-quality and high-resolution images are realized through the processing of an enormous amount of data via the ultra high-speed signal processing and the raw noise reduction technologies.
The 2.7-inch hybrid LCD screen on the DCR-DVD803/E is capable of a high quality wide 16:9 aspect ratio. The true 16:9 mega screen mode provides a wider viewing angle of approximately 14.3% and 33% higher resolution. Additional Start/Stop Recording and Zoom buttons are available on the LCD frames to aid in low angle shooting or taking self-portraits in mirror mode. A Wide Select button is also available to facilitate switching between 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio recordings.
Variable Bit Recording is also featured in all three models. Compatible with the three recording modes for movie, HQ (high quality), SP (standard) and LP (long time), it enables users to capture high-resolution videos while VBR automatically adjusts the density of the recording - more space is allocated to more complex footage and vice versa. This maximizes the storage space on the DVD and at the same time blocks the noisiness that affects picture quality.
This Handycam model comes with Visual Index, Slide Show and Photo Movie functions, designed to fully enhance users' shooting, viewing and sharing experience. The Visual Index function displays images that are captured as thumbnails; this allows users to easily find and playback favorite scenes without the hassle of searching the entire DVD for them. The Photo Movie function gives users the option to convert still images in JPEG format to movies in MPEG format to play them back on other DVD Players or a PC. Finally, the Slide Show feature lets users sequentially playback all still images in the disc.
A PictBridge connection on the DCR-DVD803/E allows printing of your high quality 3 Mega Pixels pictures directly on any PictBridge compliant printer; Selection of images and copies can be conveniently made via the camera's LCD display.
