Emiratis & Lebanese voted Mid East's most entrepreneurial
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, May 21 - 2005 at 12:00
- PRESS RELEASE
UAE nationals and Lebanese have been voted the most entrepreneurial nationalities in the Middle East by an online survey organised by Entrepreneurs in Dubai - the world's largest gathering of self-made business leaders and tycoons, which begins on Monday.
The poll also revealed too much red tape is the biggest obstacle to start-up business in the region.
"The survey threw up a number of interesting results," said Jessica Sutherland, General Manager of IIR Exhibitions, which is co organising Entrepreneurs in Dubai in conjunction with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders.
"While too much red tape was voted as the top obstacle to start-up business, lack of funding and lack of government support also recorded a high number of votes, suggesting potential entrepreneurs in the region are facing a whole host of difficulties."
Almost three quarters of respondents believed that entrepreneurial leadership can be taught, while two thirds cited the financial risk of starting your own business as the worst aspect of being an entrepreneur.
"According to the poll, the best thing about being an entrepreneur is the ability to bring about change," explained Sutherland. "And in describing the difference between business figures like famous entrepreneur Donald Trump and renowned 'enterpriser' Jack Welch, risk taking was voted as the most distinguishing factor.
"One thing this survey certainly proves is the regional debate on entrepreneurship is at the forefront of business people's minds - a debate which will continue at Entrepreneurs in Dubai, where some of the world's best known business people will share their experience with the audience."
A powerful line up of 30 international speakers will take to the stage at Entrepreneurs in Dubai, including The Body Shop founder, Dame Anita Roddick, easyJet boss Stelios Haji-Ioannou and real estate magnate, Donald J. Trump, who will address the audience via videolink.
Entrepreneurs in Dubai will run from Monday until Wednesday at the Dubai International Convention Centre and will also feature an associated exhibition of services for SMEs, which is free to attend.
