Avaya presents wireless solutions at Microsoft's Business Forum Roadshow

Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a global leader in corporate networking solutions and services, will present a selection of its Wireless solutions for small -to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) during the Microsoft Business Forum, a 12-city roadshow, taking place across the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean from this month through to January 2002.

Avaya's Wireless Residential Gateway 1 (RG 1) and Access Point II (AP II) offerings will be used to manage delegate registrations during all twelve events. This technology provides mobility and flexibility for a 'wireless world', enhances productivity and profitability as well as reduces costs.

According to Rifaat Al-Karmi, Avaya data specialist, Middle East and North Africa, Avaya's Wireless portfolio enables employees to connect to customers, BusinessPartners, vendors and with each other from wherever their work takes them.

"The RG 1 high-speed wireless networking system is part of Avaya's Small Office & Home (SOHO) solution and is designed for small user groups, such as a family or a small office," said Mr Al-Karmi. "It allows users to share resources and access the Internet through the same user name and password without the need to re-install any additional wiring. Remote network access is facilitated by a built-in 56K modem or by an Ethernet port, which connects to broadband cable, xDSL or ISDN services."

"Microsoft welcomes Avaya's partnership in the Forum, which aims to show regional decision makers the clear business advantages that can be obtained by the implementation of techology, including Avaya's offerings that will be presented during the event," added Simon Ranson, community development manager, Microsoft Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean.

Avaya's AP II allows businesses to respond quickly and cost-effectively to their changing data communication needs by providing customers with quick LAN deployment and reducing the costs that are associated with enhancing corporate networks. It is designed for more than 50 users, enhances employee productivity, and features built-in security mechanisms including 128-Bit encryption, with load balancing and sharing capabilities.

The flexible architecture of the AP II means that it can be tied to 100 Mb backbones or bridged for high capacity areas where mobile users need extensive coverage as well as for locations that are difficult to wire. A simple upgrade also allows it to be used as an outdoor router for multiple site or campus-wide network coverage.

The single interface that permits high-performance data networking for all of Avaya's wireless solutions is the Avaya Wireless PC Card. Avaya's wireless card is plugged into a notebook or PDA device. By using an adapter, it can extend wireless networks to a desktop, point of sale or other non-portable device, and, because of its inherent data protection and security features, ensures that mobile users can securely access LAN and Internet services, from anywhere around a building or corporate campus.

"Avaya's RG 1 and APII solutions are widely deployed throughout the Middle East region. Unlike any other vendor in the region, these Avaya wireless solutions are Voice over Internet-Protocol (VOIP)-ready," added Walter Koenig, regional managing director, Middle East, North Africa and South Eastern Europe, Avaya.
