GCAA's Air Traffic Monthly Report for August 2012 provided the number of air traffic movements in each UAE airport: Dubai ranked first with 27199 traffic movements. Over flights stood next at 12903 air traffic movements.
Abu Dhabi ranked third with 8919 air traffic movements. According to the report, air traffic movements in Sharjah International Airport ranked fourth with 5320 movements.
Local flights between UAE airports were in the fifth position with 4392 movements. Al Maktoum International Airport witnessed 655 movements, Fujairah International Airport witnessed 122 movements, while Ras Al Khaimah International Airport had 291 air traffic movements and Al Ain Airport had 139 air traffic movements.
The report indicated that GCAA issued 3 Air Operator Certificates (AOC) as part of Aviation Safety activities, completed 23 licensing transactions for aircraft maintenance companies. GCAA also conducted 8 inspections and audits and issued 19 simulator certificates.
The Month of August also witnessed the following major events:
- The UAE's GCAA Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre launches the MID Regions 1st daily Airspace Coordination and Contingency cell earlier this week. The UACACC aims at developing future applications including an online platform assessable to members where up to the minute airspace/airport restrictions, closures, delays, adverse weather etc. can be shared.
- General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and UAE Permanent Delegation at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have concluded its participation in an international meeting hosted in Washington D.C. by the US State Department Special Envoy on Climate Change, Mr. Todd Stern. The purpose of the gathering was to advance discussions on addressing international aviation emissions. States such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, and the UAE joined the US at this event.
- In line with General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) efforts to undertake Social Corporate Responsibility initiatives, GCAA teamed up with UAE Genetic Disease Association (GDA) and signed an MoU to provide support to GDA's activities in UAE, notably those evolving around preventing the occurrence of Thalassemia, a common genetic disorder in UAE. The MoU was signed in GCAA's Dubai offices. H.E Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA, and Dr. Mariam Mattar, Founder and Chairperson of GDA.
- (GCAA) organized an award ceremony for the winner of its "Love Your Sky" competition.
The awarding took place at GCAA's Regional Office in Dubai last Thursday. Ms. Laila Ali Hareb, Exectuive Director of Strategy and International Affairs, and Ms. Ruqayya Al Belooshi, Corporate Communicate Manager were present to hand the gift to the winner.
