DigitalSkys today announced the signing of a five-year agreement with the international division of the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA), a deal that will help assure the Dubai-based company's growth prospects by providing teleport services to support state-of-the-art access to satellite networks with a global reach.

Under the terms of the agreement between the two companies, CYTA will host DigitalSkys' VSAT hub at the Makarios Earth Station site in Cyprus, and will provide direct links to NSS-6 and NSS-7 satellites with dedicated Ku band antennae. The CYTA facility hosts a large number of earth station transmitters accessing a variety of regional and international satellites, and offers extensive fiber connectivity with international reach, including access to the global IP network.

The location of Cyprus-based hub is ideal, with the Mediterranean base providing close geographic access to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

"We are very excited with this opportunity to work with CYTA," said DigitalSkys Chief Executive Charles D'Alberto, based in Dubai. "The CYTA teleport is a well-established, well located, and technologically advanced facility that will serve DigitalSkys and its clients well."

According to C. A. Michaelides, CYTA's manager for international commercial services, the agreement will allow CYTA to expand the range of its services.

"We are pleased to work with DigitalSkys and we believe this deal represents a major opportunity for CYTA to expand its reach into new markets," Michaelides said. "This is a very good example of the enhanced solutions that CYTA can provide using a combination of satellites and optical fiber resources."

This important strategic agreement comes after a period of intense preparations, as DigitalSkys prepares to start offering commercial services.
