The online mentoring programme is as yet only available in Cambridge International School. The programme provides real time online support to students during holiday period and extends further than an online database or an intranet service. It offers an environment where students can have their queries answered immediately by teachers specialising in the respective subject area.
Hugh MacPherson, Chief Operating Officer, GEMS said, 'At GEMS we provide students with opportunities to develop their Information and Communications Technology skills and expand their horizons through enquiry, exploration and decision making in order to excel in the present, whilst helping to shape the future'.
This service is currently available to all students of Cambridge International School who use specific user id's and password that allows them to access the system from any part of the world. The programme is continuously monitored by concerned personnel who log onto the network and access any of the live chat conversations. This helps them to filter all queries and observe the attendance of students and teachers. 'Through ongoing research and stringent quality assurance programmes, GEMS ensure that the strategies, methods and resources it uses reflect the highest standard of practice from around the world', further noted MacPherson.
Teachers are available online at different times and students are made aware of the entire schedule through the school authorities. The programme has been successfully operating in Cambridge International School and is expected to expand across the entire GEMS network. 'To focus on improvement and extension of the curriculum, including new and exciting ways of teaching is one of our core values', he added.
The GEMS network of schools in UAE is already equipped with an online system that allows students to access any online notes, assignments and details related with their education.
