GCAA completes the Aircraft Accident Investigation Course

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announces the completion of an Aircraft Accident Investigation Course conducted in Dubai from 21 May - 1 June 2005.

This course was attended by participants from the Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs, Ras Al Khaimah Civil Aviation Directorate, Royal Jet and Flight Operations and Airworthiness Inspectors from the GCAA.

The actual presentation of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Course was conducted by Michel Salmon, of the Institut Francais de Securite Aerienne (French Institute for Aviation Safety) who is an expert in civil aviation accidents with extensive world-wide experience.

The course included an overview of all aspects of aircraft accidents including the basic concepts, human factors, methodologies for examination of the various aircraft systems, hazards at the accident site and how to conduct hearings and interviews with witnesses.

This course was attended by participants from the Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs, Ras Al Khaimah Civil Aviation Directorate, Royal Jet and Flight Operations and Airworthiness Inspectors from the GCAA.

Mohammed Ghanim Al Ghaith, the Director General of the GCAA, stated that 'the purpose of conducting exhaustive aircraft accident investigations is to determine the reasons for the accident in order that future accidents can be prevented.'

The GCAA intends to continue to host a series of aviation safety training courses in the UAE and invite industry, operators and Civil Aviation Authorities within the region to participate. The GCAA is the federal body created by the UAE government to regulate, oversee and provide flight safety services inclusive of aircraft incident and accident investigation as well as certain air navigation services within the country.
