In keeping with this theme, Dr Abdulla Al Karam, CEO Dubai Knowledge Village gave a speech to an audience of prominent education professionals entitled, "Knowledge Village: Building the New Destination for International Education." The presentation explored the unique model of Dubai Knowledge Village and how education is key to developing a sustainable knowledge economy in the region.

"We were delighted to be among so many prominent universities to present KV's unique model," said Dr. Al Karam. "KV has taken part in conferences in top education destinations all over the world but NAFSA is undoubtedly the biggest so far. Our participation in this conference, is part of our objective to attract top international universities to Dubai."

The conference was a strategic platform for KV to reach out to American universities and education professionals. Participants in the conference included international educators, administrators, policy experts and world leaders, providing an important forum for the exchange of ideas, collaboration and networking in the field of education. The conference also included seminars, sessions and workshops conducted by a host of prominent speakers. About NAFSA
NAFSA pioneered the concept of providing professional services for post-secondary exchange students. Early efforts to enhance living and learning environments for exchange students have blossomed into today's active association of accomplished professionals whose numbers continue to grow worldwide.
NAFSA was founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers to promote the professional development of American college and university officials responsible for assisting and advising the 25,000 foreign students who had come to study in the United States after World War II. The academic institutions, government agencies, and private organizations that combined to form NAFSA knew that meeting the needs of students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds required special knowledge and competencies.

The association's scope soon expanded to include admissions personnel, English-language specialists, and the community volunteers who played an important role in helping foreign students become acclimated to American college communities. To reflect this growing and increasingly diverse membership, in 1964 the association changed its name to the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs.
By 1990, as the number of foreign students in the United States approached the 400,000 mark, there were 6,400 NAFSA members on 1,800 campuses, and increasing numbers of U.S. students were studying abroad. To reflect the now well-established role of NAFSA members in all aspects of international education and exchange, the name of the association was changed once more: In May 1990 the membership formally renamed the organization NAFSA: Association of International Educators. The acronym was retained to reflect NAFSA's proud past and broad name recognition.

NAFSA's 2005 Annual Conference & International Education Expo in Seattle, Washington is a community where vision, opportunity and inspiration abound. Held at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, the largest and most important gathering of international educators, administrators, policy experts and world leaders, is your connection to colleagues, learning and career expansion.
Exploring the theme, "Opening Minds to the Global Community," this year's conference sessions and workshops will examine a world of new opportunities and challenges and point to the ways ahead. Be ready to capitalize on tomorrow's most promising opportunities in international education and exchange.
