- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, June 05 - 2005 at 16:17
- PRESS RELEASE
The joint promotion by the Department of Economic Development (DED) and Emirates Post drew to a successful completion last week, with Emirates Post receiving a total of 4037 applications for business registration procedures during this period.
Applications received through Emirates Post accounted for almost 27 per cent of the total applications received by the business registration division at the Department as 11,011 applications were received at the DED offices during this period. The DED and Emirates Post had launched a 11-week joint campaign to route business registration procedures through Emirates Post offices in order to offer greater convenience to investors and enable them to save their valuable time.
"We are immensely pleased with the results of this campaign as it has achieved its objective of implementing investor friendly policies by simplifying our business registration procedures," said Mr. Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General for Executive Affairs, DED. "The DED is focused on offering better services to investors by reducing people throughput at the DED offices and saving investors' valuable time. We will continue to encourage investors to route business registration procedures through Emirates Post offices as this will give the DED a chance to develop further value-added services for our valued customers," he added.
Commenting on the results of the promotion, Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post, said: "This is one of the most significant non-postal services being offered by Emirates Post, in an attempt to make our post offices one-stop shops for all types of services. We are very happy with the tremendous response this promotion has generated as it is evidence that there is a vital need to continually ease procedures and smoothen the process of business registration," he added
The promotion also enabled a total of 30 lucky investors to receive prizes from five raffle draws. The results of the final draw were also announced at the close of the promotion with the names of eight winning organizations being picked through an electronic draw conducted at the Emirates Post in the presence of officials from the DED.

The Department of Economic Development (DED) was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within the Emirate of Dubai. The DED has moulded its mission of building a futuristic establishment, in accordance with the vision of the Government of Dubai and in the light of globalisation and the requirements of a digital economy. One of its key functions is to encourage local and foreign investments in commercial and industrial projects, and create the appropriate environment for investors.
The DED's other functions comprise a wide range of regulatory activities including the preparation and maintenance of a commercial register and the supervision of all organisations. The DED is responsible for regulating the affairs of commercial agents and brokers and commercial advertising offices, in addition to overseeing and controlling the insurance industry in the Emirate. Examining the participation of the government in the private sector and representing the government in companies where it has a stake, also comes under the purview of the DED.
