Al Maskari appointed to head KOM

Following on from the promotion of Eng. Mohammed Al Ghassani to Executive Vice President, PEIE, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) has appointed Mohammed Al Maskari as its new Acting Director General.

The post of Acting Director General is wide-ranging - in addition to running the Park's day-to-day operations, Al Maskari will also manage the development of The Knowledge Mine (TKM) the business incubator programme based on KOM. A major part of his work will be to oversee the services provided by KOM and TKM. Work on KOM building 3 - a 10,000 square metre plus office facility - is scheduled to commence in late summer, this is a major development and one that Al Maskari will be charged with running. Commenting on the expansion of the Tech Park, Mr. Sultan Al Habsi, Executive President, PEIE said: "Oman has real strengths in terms of its ICT and tertiary research base and KOM provides a means to extend the valuable work which is already taking place in the fields of ICT, technology transfer and the exploitation of Intellectual Property for the benefit of the Sultanate. Expanding the facilities on offer at KOM is a major, indeed necessary, step forward for Oman's economy. I'm confident Mohammed Al Maskari will contribute to the Park's further development and success."

Al Maskari is looking forward to the challenges that this new post will present to him. He said:
"This is an exciting challenge - it's one of the most important jobs in the field of ICT in Oman today, and I'm keen to get started. KOM has a great track record of working closely with business, government and academia. Our existing 12,000 square metres of business and incubator space are already being used to good effect. Growing these areas of activity, working with a wider range of commercial partners, will be important to the long-term future of KOM and bring benefits to the companies involved whether they be multinationals, SMEs or start-ups."
