As part of its campaign to raise awareness about the advantages that 3G technology provides to users in the wider Middle East region, Motorola will speak at the second Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference in Amman on June 11 - 12, 2005.
"We have reached a critical stage in the evolution of the Middle East's telecoms market, and there are now a number of issues driving greater 3G adoption. First and foremost, liberalization in several markets and a general heating-up of competition is causing operators to look beyond voice services to determine how they can increase revenues per mobile user," said Watts.
"Secondly, there is now a profusion of 3G handsets available in the regional market, with key differentiators in terms of features, design, and price, meaning that consumers in the Middle East have access to 3G phones that are more streamlined, more affordable, and even stylish - a vital consideration in this region," he continued.
"The missing elements to the Middle East's 3G story are the compelling applications - whether they be access to sports scores, music and entertainment, or some other dynamic content, that will drive consumer adoption of 3G phones as 'must have' personal devices," Watts concluded.
Watts' presentation is also set to give conference attendees a firsthand look at the new styles of 3G phones that will debut in the region over the next year. Motorola was the first handset manufacturer to offer 3G mobiles in the Middle East, and retains the widest range of 3G handsets available in the industry as well as the highest market share of 3G handsets globally.
Motorola is a sponsor of the Arab Advisors' second Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference in Amman.
