Mercator's Nomad keeps tabs on cargo containers
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, May 28 - 2002 at 15:15
- PRESS RELEASE
DNATA, the major ground and airport handling agency at Dubai International Airport, has successfully migrated to NOMAD, a revolutionary new cargo container management system from Mercator, the Dubai-based Emirates Group's IT division.
It ensures that the right type, quantity, and quality of ULDs are in the right place, at the right time and at the right cost.
DNATA manages thousands of ULDs on behalf of more than 100 airlines, and NOMAD will radically improve the management of ULDs by offering advanced inventory, stock control and messaging functionality, damage and repair tracking modules, interline loaning modules and Management Information System tools.
Deepak Bhatia, DNATA Ground Operations Manager, says: "ULD management used to be a painstaking manual process at the airport, draining valuable resources. With NOMAD, this has changed overnight. Now we have complete control of stocks, and can deliver a highly efficient service to customers."
The system cures the headaches of ULD management at a stroke, Mr Bhatia said. It streamlines operations, improves efficiency, cuts costs and increases control.
DNATA was set up by the Dubai Government in 1959 with a staff of five to provide ground handling at Dubai International Airport, then newly-opened. Today, as part of the Emirates Group of companies, it is one of the largest travel organisations in the Middle East with more than 5,500 staff.
Hugh Pride, Director IT of Mercator, said: "DNATA will offer customer airlines radically enhanced service. With Dubai Airport's dramatic growth plans, and cargo volumes increasing year on year, NOMAD will be crucial to helping it maintain its reputation as a world class cargo hub."
