Held to coincide with the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) Asia Pacific 2002 exhibition, the awards were presented at a gala dinner hosted by Raven Fox, the publishers of trade magazines Duty Free News International and Travel Retailer International. The annual awards recognise advances made in the travel retail industry and are based on a free vote among travel retailers and suppliers.
Commenting on Dubai Duty Free's latest award, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation said: "Receiving this award for the second consecutive year represents a major vote of confidence by travel retail industry. Over the past year, the operation has gone from strength to strength and this award is an indication of its ongoing success."
Dubai Duty Free's Managing Director, Colm McLoughlin, who was in Singapore to accept the award said: "The Raven Fox Award for Retail Excellence is one of three top industry awards. I am happy to say that, for the second year running, Dubai Duty Free is the current holder of all three top awards. This is definitely an industry first and this level of recognition is entirely due to the hard work and dedication of all 970 Dubai Duty Free staff. I would like to thank H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum for his full and continued support and guidance and thanks to all the Dubai Duty Free staff."

Now in its nineteenth year of operation, Dubai Duty Free has set a sales target of Dhs1 billion (US$277 million) for this year. Record first quarter sales of Dhs251.2 (US$69.7 million), which represent a 5% increase over the same period last year, are a positive indicator that the sales target will be achieved.
