The 5200kms submarine cable that aims to connect South East Asia (SEA), Middle East (ME) and Western Europe (WE) is on track to link the regions with added bandwidth capacity. E-marine's cable ship Umm Al Anber finished the phase 2, making it the first block of the entire project to be completed.

E-marine cableships Niwa and Umm Al Anber have laid 5200 km of submarine cable between Jeddah, Fujairah, Karachi and Mumbai including 400km of Burial on Mumbai and Fujairah ends. The new submarine cable uses terabit technology, and represents the latest generation of submarine networks. The added bandwidth capacity available for international connectivity will boost voice and data capabilities.

Omar Jassim Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer, e-marine, said: "We are extremely pleased with the success of our efforts on this project. To have completed the longest segment of the project ahead of all other operators is a significant achievement, and I am confident that this will bring about positive opportunities for the company."

The major portion of the cable laying was completed earlier, and the final leg, to connect Fujairah, Jeddah, Mumbai and Karachi through a Branching Unit was completed in May '05. Installation of Segment 2 of this project by e-marine is recognition of e-marine's unrivalled capabilities and strong presence in the international submarine cable industry.

The SEA-ME-WE-4 is another prominent submarine cable project that e-marine is involved with, the others having been the earlier series of SEA-ME-WE networks, as well as FLAG and FOG. e-marine is actively pursuing several major international submarine cable systems in the region and foresees its participation in many other similar projects being planned for the coming years worldwide.
