HH Sheikh Ahmed appoints Dubai Logistics City CEO

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and Chairman of the Emirates Group has announced the appointment of a CEO to head Dubai Logistics City (DLC) and the Airport City Free Zone.

Logistics industry veteran Michael Proffitt has been appointed to the role and joins DLC after eight years at Deutsche Post/Danzas where he rose to be Executive Director for Europe and Board Member of Mail International.

A holder of an MBA degree from the UK's distinctive Cranfield University and a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Proffitt (58), a British national, has a logistics career spanning 28 years and several countries.

"Michael brings to this role a wealth of international logistics experience which will ensure Dubai Logistics City lives up to its promise of partnering the industry to make sure its many 21st century facets are delivered in a fashion which, in many cases, will alter and optimise business plans," said HH Sheikh Ahmed.

During his career, Proffitt has held many senior logistics positions including Managing Director of XPL GmbH, Fourth Party Logistics, Senior Vice President Danzas, Global Customer Solutions, Chief Executive of McGregor Cory, now owned by Excel Plc. He has also been a Board Member and Head of the UK Logistics Division of Hays plc.

Dubai Logistics City, together with the new Jebel Ali International Airport (JXB), will be the first phase of the new Jebel Ali Airport City Free Zone, which will eventually span almost 140 square kilometres. DLC is designed to be the preferred location for businesses which require, or offer, logistics and multi-modal transport services to the GCC, wider Middle East, India, Africa and the CIS - a market of more than two billion consumers.
