DED provides practical guidance for developing national entrepreneurship with SME booklets

In its continuing effort to offer wide-ranging support to UAE national-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the Dubai Department of Economic Development launched a pack of five booklets which focus on the various aspects of developing a small business.

The booklets, which are aimed at spreading awareness on the proper business methods for successful SMEs, have been compiled and published by the SME development section at the Business Sector Development Division, DED.

The pack contains five booklets in Arabic with the following titles: "Effective Sales: How to develop your sales skills"; "Effective Marketing", "Effective Advertising", "Strategic Marketing", and "How to prepare effective business plans".

"The development of national entrepreneurship is one of the strategic objectives of the DED and we are working on several levels to ensure that our national educated youth have access to all support in order to develop their creative ideas into viable business projects," said Fareed Al Abdulla, Head of Business Sector Development Division, DED. "These booklets have been produced after extensive research on the small business segment and include a wide variety of practical methods to ensure the profitability of a business venture," he added.

He added: "The booklets would be of great benefit for entrepreneurs who seek knowledge on how to set their sales strategy and the adequate channels to approach consumers. Added to that, the issues discussed in the booklet cover the significant elements that contribute to the success or failure of business projects."

"How to conduct Efficient Marketing" deals with the world of marketing and includes topics on identifying and creating a successful product or service, communicating effectively with clients and setting up an effective distribution system. It also devotes significant chapters to the importance of presenting a product and pricing it in an optimum manner for maximum profitability.

Creating an effective advertising campaign to reach the minds and feelings of the customer is the subject of "How to make an effective advertisement". The booklet also deals with customer behavior and the basics of planning, creating and conducting an effective ad campaign.

The four Ps of strategic marketing - Price, Product, Place and promotion - are dealt with extensively in "Strategic Marketing." The booklet explains the importance of Market research and product diversification and offers strategies to increase the lifecycle of a product. Effective strategies for pricing and choosing the right distribution channels are also dealt with in the book.

"Efficient Sales" deals with the salesman and his unique characteristics and deals with selling techniques within and outside one's environment. Concluding sales interviews, the importance of after sales service and the ten kinds of sales persons are also categorized in this booklet.

A professional team of marketing and sales specialists have contributed to provide comprehensive material for the booklets based on extensive research and genuine business cases in the SME sector. The booklets can be obtained by contacting the Business Sector Development Division at the DED.
