Dubai and Frankfurt are twin cities

  • Germany: Tuesday, June 21 - 2005 at 09:33

His Excellency Qassim Sultan Al Banna, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and Frankfurt's Lord Mayor, Frau Petra Roth signed a treaty of friendship and cooperation on June 14.

Mr. Al Banna visited Germany's uncontested financial capital with a 20-strong delegation of prominent local politicians and businessmen.

Dubai and Frankfurt not only have a skyline of high-rise office blocks, bank buildings and hotels in common. Both cities are strong in the fields of finance, commercial services, IT, media as well as biotechnology and water technology.

Frankfurt's Messegesellschaft or trade fair association has a subsidiary in Dubai, and Dubai's new airport could become a partner of Fraport.

In addition, the Group Deutsche Börse, the Dubai International Financial Exchange and Frankfurt's Goethe University are to jointly develop an examination and certification system for stockbrokers at the DIFX Academy. Also analysts see good opportunities for start-up investments from Dubai in Frankfurt.

The partnership agreement signed in the Kaisersaal of the historic Roemer building in the heart of Frankfurt sets the goals for cooperation particularly in trade and commerce, new technologies, tourism, medicine, urban planning, education, culture and sports.

Special support for the partnership project came from the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing office in Frankfurt which has been hugely successful in promoting Dubai as a tourism and leisure destination in Germany.
