The client for the Qatar plant is a consortium composed of Qatar Electricity & Water Company, International Power and Chubu Electrical Power. The Dubai contract was awarded to Siemens by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

Siemens will be erecting the gas & steam turbine power station Ras Laffan B in partnership with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction with Siemens in the driving seat. Siemens' contract includes three SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two steam turbines plus the related electrical and control equipment.

After completion in May 2008, the plant will have a capacity of approximately 1000MW. The desalination plant supplied by Doosan will supply around 27,500 cubic metres of water per day.

For the gas turbine power station in Dubai, Siemens is to supply three SGT5-2000E gas turbines including controls, installation and commissioning. It is scheduled for completion in early 2007 and will have an installed capacity of 400MW.

'Ras Laffan is the first turn-key contract won by Siemens in the State of Qatar, the economy of which is developing at a rapid pace', said Klaus Voges, the Chairman of Siemens Power Generation.

The power generation section of Siemens is one of the market leaders in the international power plant business. In 2004 Siemens Power Group had a turnover of almost $10 billion and signed contracts worth $12 billion.
