- PRESS RELEASE
HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's IT Education Project (ITEP); an initiative for the enhancement of education through IT, has launched a unique ICT teacher training programme in Abu Dhabi.
Aimed at educators who have already completed an International Computer Drivers License (ICDL), iTeach instructs teachers how to use ICT as a teaching tool, while at the same time helping their students to use the technology to improve their studies.
By taking a course that integrates elements of the Cambridge International Diploma in Teaching with ICT, teachers will learn how to plan which ICT resources to use in a lesson, how to apply them in class and how to assess their effectiveness upon the lesson's completion. Education professionals will also learn how other teachers use ICT in the classroom for the best results.
"iTeach is the first programme of its kind in the region and we are overwhelmed with the response from teachers for the course," said Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director ITEP. "The Cambridge-ITEP qualification will make a real difference to the effectiveness teachers in the region and we are happy that the programme is launched."
The Cambridge-iTeach initiative was launched in response to a growing demand from teachers to be kept up-to-date with developments in ICT technology. It is designed for teachers in all education and training contexts, and at all levels.
"University of Cambridge International Examinations is delighted to be working with ITEP. ITEP's course and our qualification will be of great benefit to teachers in developing their professional knowledge and skills, and will thus enhance teaching and learning," said Paul Beedle, Manager of Professional Development Certification at CIE. "We are very impressed by the quality of the course content and its presentation - it is easy-to-use, well-designed and very stimulating."
Upon completion teachers will receive a Cambridge International Diploma in Teaching with ICT.
iTeach students can access course materials through ITEP's new training-focused website. In addition, students receive a free ITEP email address for life. The course provides a generous discount to Government teachers.
ITEP is part of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision to enhance IT literacy in schools, universities, the government and the region as a whole.
