Under the deal, WebLink in conjunction with IEC will produce CD-Rom catalogues specific to exhibitors and visitors, which can be regularly and automatically updated via the Net.

"The user only has to install the CD once, the catalogue will then be resident on the hard-disc being activated by a branded icon, and content updates will be fed in automatically and in real time via an internet connection," explained David Pryce of Dubai Media City-based Independent WebLink Software FZE.

"Updates are delivered when users normally log-on, and because the software takes up only 15% of bandwidth and 20 megabytes of space, it does not interfere with normal web surfing."

The CD Rom service will be trial tested for IEC's evolving Sign & Graphic Imaging Middle East show, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from January 22-24 next year.

"The CD catalogues will be distributed on CD-Rom to both exhibitors and visitors at the shows and, apart from all the stand information usually found in catalogues, will feature many extra innovative and useful data and tool sets," said Mohammed Falaknaz, Vice Chairman, IEC. "For instance, because the information can be accessed electronically, all information can be cross-indexed to ensure speed and simplicity of data retrieval.

"We are constantly seeking new and innovative ways of serving our exhibiting and visiting clients and of expanding the reach of our shows and this product meets these requirements."

Though CD-Rom catalogues are rapidly becoming an industry 'norm,' WebLink says it's Net Connection CD-Rom is unique in its ability to provide real-time updates for up to 12 months after the show.

"All the information about the show, the exhibitors, contact details, new product launches, special offers and the like are always current and up-to-date," said Pryce. "The program can also be used by the show management and advertisers to constantly make clients and exhibitors aware of their services and products. Updates are specific to the various needs of the audience - for instance exhibitors receive a free listing of importers and buyers."

Though updates are specific, content looks the same, there are links to dedicated show web-sites and users are notified once up-dates have been fed to them.

IEC's interest lies in the ability of the WebLink program to provide essential intelligent feedback.

"The program self-compiles information on what products are of interest to the CD distribution base and reports that back to us as organisers, exhibitors and advertisers," said Falaknaz. "It can also be revenue generating through advertising with clients being charged only for the number of active programs."
