Thai Airways, RJ sign code-share agreement

Signing the agreement falls in line with RJ's strategic plan designed to expand its network through market alliances with international air carriers and code-share agreements. Such accords enable Royal Jordanian to reach over 100 destinations without incurring the expenses it would if it were to run direct operations to around half of these destination.

Implementation of the new agreement with Thai Airways started in the middle of June 2005, with the international reservation systems. It enables Royal Jordanian to single-handedly operate five weekly flights between Amman and Bangkok. RJ adds its code to Thai Airways flights operating from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. Thus, RJ passengers traveling from Amman to any one of these cities via Bangkok only need one ticket.

Furthermore, the code-share agreement implies that Thai Airways International adds its code to Royal Jordanian's flights from Bangkok to Amman or from one of the aforementioned cities to Amman via Bangkok, using one Thai Airways ticket. In addition, each of the carriers can sell flights on the other carrier on the route Amman-Bangkok.

Royal Jordanian regards this accord as a practical step towards boosting its presence in the Far East region and offering better services to passengers traveling between Jordan and countries of South East Asia, all without incurring big costs of operating direct flights to those countries.

RJ has several marketing alliances on code-share basis with a number of international airlines, which are: America West Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Iberia, Aeroflot, Cyprus Airways, Air Canada, Gulf Air, and Syrian Airlines, in addition to Thai Airways.
