Bigger role for the academic guidance in higher education

The Academic guidance in the higher educational institutions should not be limited to guiding students to their class rooms and curricula, on the contrary it should further discuss the psychological , social conditions of the students, revealed a study conducted by Dr Mohammed Waffai, Faculty of Education and Basic sciences , Ajman University of Science and Technology.
"The student is prone to a lots stormy changes at the age between 15-18 the age he, or she moving to the college and university life. It needs alots of care, love and mutual respect to help the student to make a soft move from the school life to university life. Therefore the role of the Academic Guidance is very essential to help the parents to direct their children on the right path of his or her interest.
Dr Waffai said," In the university, it is very important to assign a guide for each small group to be able to communicate with them better and find out their problem and help them to solve it. The guides should meet with the students on a weekly basis to discuss the academic and other issues of concern.
He said, the guide should be of good knowledge of all the university's rules and regulations, the programs on offer to help the students solving their problems. The guide should be flexible in dealing with the students and has the communication skills and able to analyse and interpret the information and finally come out with good assessment of the problems and the ways to solve it.
He said, from the experience we found that academic guidance is a very essential tools that could help the students achieve better results on all fronts. He added , Ajman University of Science and Technology has given this issue adequate importance and yet trying to improve it from time to time, he said.
