Standard Chartered launches Local graduate Programme

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, July 13 - 2005 at 12:25
  • PRESS RELEASE

Standard Chartered, the UAE's leading international bank, has introduced a Local Graduate Programme as part of the bank's ongoing Emiratisation drive.

Launched at the inaugural Standard Chartered Prize for Academic Excellence ceremony at Zayed University, the programme will run alongside the bank's global graduate scheme and takes one year to complete.

"Standard Chartered is committed to Emiratisation as a key business objective," said Ray Ferguson, Chief Executive, Standard Chartered UAE. "Ultimately, the success of our Emiratisation scheme depends on the bank's ability to recruit the best talent from colleges and universities."

Recruits will undergo classroom and on-the-job training, as well as exposure to a variety of roles with the bank. Participants will also be given access to the bank's Entry Level Banking Curriculum, an induction course developed in conjunction with the National Human Resource and Employment Authority, Tanmia.

"Standard Chartered is making a significant investment in training new graduates, in order to develop and retain local talent," said Ferguson.

The programme will be structured to allow new recruits to continue post-graduate studies and involve automatic entry into Standard Chartered's National Talent Development Programme, an ongoing scheme to provide focused training for promising Emirati employees.

The tie-up with the bank's global graduate scheme also means new recruits can attend workshops in a number of Standard Chartered's other major business centres, such as Singapore and Hong Kong.

"A strong national workforce is vital for the continued development of the UAE's economy, and as one of the longest-serving international banks in the country, it is important for Standard Chartered to play a role in this process," said Ferguson.
