- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, July 16 - 2005 at 15:11
- PRESS RELEASE
Senior officials from the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently visited the Istanbul-based Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) to put the final touches to the new exhibition on the art of Arabic calligraphy to be held in Dubai.
The unique Arabic calligraphy exhibition, organized by the department, has become an integral part of the calendar of events during the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) for the past two years.
Both the organizations agreed to bring renowned calligraphers from other countries, especially Arabic calligraphers who have immigrated to the UK and the US.
Last year, the 'Dubai International Exhibition on the Art of Arabic Calligraphy' showcased the works of 25 prize-winning contemporary calligraphers from eight Arab and Islamic countries - Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Iraq and Iran in addition to the UAE.
Arabic calligraphy is one of the most respected art forms and the exhibition provided a perfect platform for learning about the entire spectrum of Arabic calligraphy.
