LG supports excelling students at UJ

LG Electronics and its agent in Jordan, the Middle East Complex for Engineering, Electronic and Heavy Industries (MEC) signed on July 11 an agreement with the University of Jordan (UJ) under which UJ students will be granted scholarships from LG company, while the two sides agreed on a program to exchange students in various academic specializations.

The agreement was signed by UJ President Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Huneiti and LG Electronics Regional Manager in Amman Mr. T. Y. Lee and MEC's Assistant CEO Ghazi Farouq. The signing ceremony was also attended by UJ Assistant President for Academic Affairs Dr. Nabil Shawaqfeh, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Dr. Mahmoud Al-Omian and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Mahmoud Hammad.

The agreement aims at providing talented youth with opportunities to improve their capabilities through scholarships and specialized training programs to supply the local market with its needs of qualified persons.

Following the signing of the agreement, Dr. Al-Huneiti voiced appreciation for LG's initiative to support best performing UJ students, stressing the importance of such partnership with LG to upgrade the capabilities of Jordanian youth and develop their academic and practical skills.

For his part, Mr. Lee LG Electronics regional manager praised the performance of the UJ, the first higher education institution in the Kingdom, at the scientific and technical level, saying that this excellence was the reason behind selecting it for this partnership and noting that Jordan is enjoys "a fertile soil for human potential and young talents."

Mr. Lee underscored the key role of university students in building the country, adding that the various aspects of economic and social development hinge on scientific progress.

Elaborating on the agreement, Eng. Farouq from MEC (LG agent in Jordan) said LG would be sending two excelling students in the Korean Language Section to Korea every year to be acquainted with the culture and heritage of the republic, while four scholarships would be granted to best achievers at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the marketing section to continue their higher education at the UJ.

He added: "The agreement also stipulates that winners of scholarships would join training programs at one of LG branches in the world with a prospect of ensuring them jobs at the company. Meanwhile, LG undertakes to support the Korean Language Section with advanced electronic equipment to improve students' ability to learn the language and develop their academic skills."
