The July issue of 'Sound & Vision' magazine described the LG 50-inch plasma HD TV with built-in DVR (50PY2DR) as a 'HD TV first'. The HD TV was praised for its 'ultra-realistic, three-dimensional detail' and high DVD picture quality with solid colour and crisp images.

The magazine highlighted the DVR's recording features, noting their ease of control, organisation, and the previously unseen HDR extras, such as the ability to store and play digital photos and music files, which are loaded from a pair of versatile flash memory card slots on the side of the TV.

"There is an increasing tendency for people to focus on style as well as features when selecting products. Impressively designed products are taking the market by storm," said K H Kim, President, LG Electronics, Middle, East and Africa Operations.

"These solid reviews by respected technology publications reflect LG Electronics' growing influence in two major international Flat Panel Display (FPD) markets, the US and Germany. At LG, we will continue to use innovative technology and trend-setting designs to develop world-class digital display products. Our goal is to be the number one LCD and PDP TV player worldwide by 2007."

Meanwhile, Germany's 'HiFi Test' magazine reviewed nine 32-inch LCD TVs and awarded top honours to LG's 32-inch LCD TV (32LP1R). The LCD TV was rated for its high sound and picture quality as well as its unique design. The review made special mention of the LCD TV's strong black levels, contrast ratio and response time display, and its theatre-like audio quality.

According to Kim, the global PDP market has been growing quickly due to the drastic improvements seen in PDP screen quality and performance, and falling prices. The global PDP TV market, estimated at 3.5 million units in 2004, will continue to expand to reach 6.3 million units in 2005, 10 million units by 2006, and 12 million units by 2007.

Last month, LG Electronics' 50-inch plasma TV (50PY2DR) was described as the 'coolest gadget' by prestigious IT website 'IT World'. The TV also won an iF Design Award at Cebit 2005 and a Reddot Design Award. Both the 50-inch plasma TV and the 32-inch LCD TV were launched in the Middle East market last month.
