The importation ban on birds from Russia and some Asian countries to protect against avian flu has opened up an illegal trade in the UAE, with some birds coming into Sharjah on dhows, traders in the bird market told Gulf News. But no cases of bird flu have so far been detected in the UAE, and Dubai Municipality has increased inspections by 30%.
