Balinese jewellery artisans are famous the world over for their crafting of intricate ear rings, necklaces and brooches by carefully arranging beads and tiny silver or gold pieces. The spirit and thought that these fine pieces of jewellery would make their owners not only look beautiful but also happy and confident about themselves, bind the artisans together and further strengthen this art form.

In Indonesia, the fine fashion jewellery industry is something that no visitor can afford to miss. Modern, sophisticated and pretty as the jewellery appear, one will never find machineries, let alone a mould in the workshops. A solder would normally be the only "advanced" equipment that can be seen there and that too is operated manually. It takes a very high degree of craftsmanship to produce even a simple small ring and there are no duplications whatsoever.

Indonesian women had been exposed to the beauty of jewelleries ages back. However, the most interesting era was the late ethnographical ages which started from the 15th century. Before this period, jewelleries were exclusively worn for religious and traditional rituals and hence bore only very simple geometrical designs of leaves, lotus, etc.

It was discovered that in a further evolution, the jewelleries of Javanese princesses in the period acquired various archipelagic influence that enriched its somewhat monotonous designs.

Later, the intricate jewelry collection extended from necklaces and rings into arm, shoulder and ankle bracelets, and also chastity belts!

In the 19th century, Indonesian jewellery attained many more foreign influences including from Europe, West Asia and India. The Arab influence, for instance is very much evident in the jewelleries of the Acehnese, West Sumatran and South Sulawesi's.

The Indonesia Solo Exhibition at Expo Centre Sharjah, which will display a wide variety of fine fashion jewellery from across the country, will attract large numbers of wholesalers in the trade from across the region. Besides, jewellery will also be available for on-site purchase.
